The American Idol Season 21 finale is scheduled for May 21, 2023, at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST. Urban will perform on stage and also serve as a guest mentor during the finale.

Urban previously served as a judge on the series from 2012 to 2016, covering seasons 12 to 15. Throughout his tenure, he had the opportunity to work with many celebrities and fellow judges. In his final season, he worked alongside Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr., with Ryan Seacrest as the host.

After Urban’s final season, the show was canceled by Fox, the network that had broadcast the series for 15 seasons, due to declining ratings. However, the singing show was quickly picked up by ABC and returned in March 2018. Since then, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie have served as judges, with Seacrest continuing as the host.

Urban appeared excited about returning to the show, as he posted the news on his Instagram Story, writing, “Headed back to American Idol next week.”
