Raids are being conducted at numerous suspected hideouts to apprehend those involved. In response to the incident, peaceful sit-in protests have been held at various locations across the state.

Earlier, four individuals, including the prime accused Huirem Herodas Meitei, were arrested for their involvement in the case. However, this led to tension in Petchi Village, as the women there set fire to Herodas’s house in outrage.

To maintain order and curb any potential threats, the government has established 126 checkpoints across different districts, both in the hills and the valley. During these checks, the police have detained 413 people for various violations.

The state government has taken measures to counter the spread of rumors and misinformation. They have issued a “rumor-free” helpline number for people to verify the authenticity of videos and have urged citizens to return any looted weapons, ammunition, or explosives to the authorities.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has publicly condemned the viral video and expressed the people’s demand for the strictest punishment for the offenders. He actively participated in protests organized in his own constituency to show solidarity with the victims and their families.

Calling the incident a “crime against humanity,” the Chief Minister assured that the state government would make all possible efforts to bring the culprits to justice.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma raised concerns about the timing of the video’s release, suspecting political motives behind it. He compared the incident to the higher incidence of rape in some opposition-ruled states like West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.

In response to public outrage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi finally addressed the Manipur violence, expressing his anguish and anger over the incident. He called on all Chief Ministers to strengthen law and order in their respective states.

However, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the Prime Minister for not making a statement inside the Parliament, suggesting that immediate action should have been taken against the Chief Minister of Manipur instead of making comparisons with Congress-governed states.

The situation in Manipur remains tense as authorities and citizens alike seek justice for the victims and demand strict punishment for those responsible.
